Children in years 6-8 need to bring to school their own Chromebook Laptop. Chromebooks are designed for the education sector and are the only devices which are completely compatible with our learning apps, printers and device management system.
All you need is your device. No chargers or cables, please! All Chromebooks have 10+ hour battery life and should last you most of the week. However, please charge your Chromebook every night ready for school the next day.
You must also have a case or sleeve to keep your device in tip-top shape such as this one. You can slip it right into your school bag.
You have the freedom to select any Chromebook device for your child. However, we would recommend the following:
Screen Size: 11-14 inches (Best for portability). Anything bigger will be harder to carry around.
RAM: 4GB (Good). Anything less will be a bit slow when multitasking
Touch Screen: Optional
You can buy any Chromebook you like, However, we recommend buying a device in the region of £250-£400. Anything too cheap might be too slow. Anything too expensive is unnecessary for a child.
Sorry, we can only permit Chromebooks for children to use on the school WiFi network. This is to ensure we can implement the highest level of safeguarding with the administration tools we have available. Further, only Chromebooks can be automatically configured once your child logs in to work with the school printers.
If you need any advice choosing a Chromebook or have any questions. Please get in touch via byod@walhampton.com
There is no need to buy any software and you don't need Microsoft Office. All the apps we use will download and install automatically when you sign in to your Chromebook with a Walhampton account.
Setting up your new Chromebook takes less than 2 minutes:
Switch on your Chromebook and follow the prompt to connect to your home WIFI
Sign in with your child's Walhampton Google account ending in @walhampoton.org
That's it! All the security settings, apps and printer support will be installed automatically!
On the first day of the school term, we'll help your child enroll their device onto the school WIFI so it can be used in school.
We highly recommend your device is insured against accidental damage and theft with your home contents insurance or with specialist gadget insurance such as:
Protectyourbubble: £3.50 per month. £75 excess.
